A Perth rock band has snubbed pop superstars Coldplay ahead of their Australian tour in November.

The band, fronted by Chris Martin, launched a competition on Monday to find a local act to open for them over their two-night stint.

The winners will be performing in front of an estimated crowd of 120,000 over both nights — as well as enjoying $15,000 cash from the WA Government‘s Contemporary Music Fund.

Fans of local outfit The Southern River Band (SRB) tagged the group in Coldplay’s post, wanting them to take advantage of the opportunity.

But SRB frontman Callum Kramer recorded a video on the group’s Instagram page, giving Coldplay a sarcastic thanks but no thanks.

“We’ve been getting tagged in this a whole bunch today, really appreciate you putting us forward,” Kramer says, “but um pretty f*****g busy at the minute aye. Don’t know if we’re going to be able to do it.

“If it was like AC/DC or like the Foo Fighters or something like that, yep f*****g oath, probably be able to make that work.

“But at the minute for Coldplay, ah nah we’re good — yeah we’re good thanks!”

The video is captioned “Cheers heaps but!!!” with reactions from SRB fans mixed.

“U [sic] would have showed them up … opportunity missed,” said one fan.

“You guys have to do it, show all them Coldplay types what a real rock band is supposed to sound like!” said another.

“Not sure Coldplay fans are ready for SRB,” said yet another fan, clearly happy with SRB’s decision to not enter the competition.
