A Queensland schoolboy who was struck by a ute on Father’s Day has died in hospital some two weeks after the tragic incident.
Dawlon Saunders, 12, was riding his scooter in Bli Bli when he was struck by an alleged drunk driver just after 5pm on Sunday, September 3.
The boy was critically injured following the accident and suffered from multiple serious wounds including brain damage, a fractured skull, broken collarbone and arm, and a burst bladder.
He was taken to Queensland’s Children’s Hospital in Brisbane in a serious condition, where he "fought" valiantly for two weeks, but later succumbed to his wounds, his heartbroken family announced on Monday.

The 27-year-old driver, also from Bli Bli, allegedly blew 0.069 and was charged with drink driving. He is due to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on October 30.
Died 'surrounded by family'
In a gut-wrenching Facebook post, Dawlon’s older sister Letitia said he died “surrounded by family” earlier this week. “His progress scan in the first week showed he only had a small amount of damage to his outer brain, where as Thursday’s showed a significant change,” she wrote.
"On Friday, mum had to make the difficult decision to turn off his life support. Dawlon being Dawlon had fought for two days.”
A GoFundMe campaign to help cover the costs of Dawlon’s funeral has been established.
