Anzac Day opening hours: When Coles, Woolworths, Bunnings and others will trade

Anzac Day coupled with the coronavirus pandemic might have created some confusion for shoppers ahead of the weekend.

April 25 falls on Saturday this year.

But with coronavirus shutting some major outlets, restaurants and bars what will remain open?

Also, since it’s on a Saturday - do you get a public holiday on the Monday?

Do I get a public holiday on Monday?

If you’re a resident of NSW, the Northern Territory, Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania or South Australia you’ll observe Anzac Day on Saturday but won’t get a public holiday on Monday.

If you live in the ACT or Western Australia then you’ll still observe Anzac Day on Saturday but also get a public holiday on Monday.

When will Coles open on Anzac Day?

Most, if not all, Coles supermarkets in NSW and the ACT will have special opening hours of 9am until 8pm on Saturday.

Even though Monday is a public holiday in the ACT, Coles will observe its normal operating hours.

There are some exceptions - the Windsor store, in Sydney’s northwest, will be stick to its normal operating hours of 7am-10pm.

In Queensland and Coles stores will be closed on Saturday.

South Australia’s Coles supermarkets will be open on reduced hours - mostly operating between 12-5pm.

Like NSW, there are some exceptions. The Mount Gambier and Murray Bridge stores are among Coles supermarkets who will open at 12pm and close at 8pm.

In Victoria, most Coles supermarkets will open their doors at 1pm before finishing the day at 8pm.

However, the Bentleigh store in Melbourne’s southeast will observe its normal operating hours of 7am until 8pm.

Tasmania’s residents will have Coles open from 12.30pm until 8pm.

All Coles supermarkets in the Northern Territory will be open 12pm to 8pm except Alice Springs which will be open until 9pm.

Since Western Australia has a long weekend - Coles will observe different hours across Saturday through to Monday.

It’s best to double check with the supermarket, but most WA Coles stores will be closed on Saturday, have normal operating hours on Sunday and will be open 8am until 6pm on Monday.

There are exceptions - Busselton’s two stores will open 1-8pm on Saturday and 8am until 8pm Monday. The two supermarkets will observe normal operating hours on Sunday.

What time is Woolworths operating on Anzac Day?

Woolworths supermarkets in WA and Queensland will be closed on Saturday.

In Victoria, Woolies will open from 1-10pm and in South Australia most supermarkets in the metro areas will open 12-5pm.

Northern Territory residents can expect supermarkets to be open from 8am until 8pm.

In Tasmania, Woolies will open from 12.30pm until 10pm.

NSW and ACT shoppers will have Woolies open at 9am before closing at 6pm on Saturday.

However, Woolworths noted these hours are “general indicators” so it’s best to double-check with your supermarket before heading in.

Can I go to Bunnings Warehouse on Anzac Day?

Queenslanders in need of some DIY gear or looking for a home project won’t be able to access Bunnings on Saturday as stores will be closed.

In NSW and Victoria, stores will be open, but hours will be reduced to 1pm to 7pm.

Devonport and Burnie stores will be click and deliver only but all other Tasmanian Bunnings outlets will open from 12.30pm to 6pm.

South Australian stores will open at 12pm and close at 5pm.

In the ACT, Bunnings will be open 1-7pm on Saturday and 7am-7pm on Monday.

Those living in Darwin and Palmerston can expect doors to open at 1pm and close at 6pm. As for other stores in the Northern Territory, Bunnings will open at 12pm and close at 5pm in Alice Springs.

WA shoppers will have all stores, except Broome, Bunbury and Armadale outlets, open from 12-7pm on Saturday. Bunbury and Armadale will be shut while the Broome store will open from 12-5pm.

On Monday, which WA will honour as a public holiday, all Bunnings stores will be open 7am until 7pm.

IKEA’s Anzac Day opening hours

In Victoria, Springvale and Richmond Ikea stores will be open 1pm to 7pm.

Those looking to head to an IKEA in the ACT will have the Canberra store open to them from 1-6pm on Saturday and 10am-6pm on Monday.

IKEA at Rhodes and Tempe in Sydney will be open from 1pm to 9pm while the Marsden Park store will operate from 1-8pm.

Both of Queensland’s IKEA stores in Logan and North Lakes won’t open on Saturday.

Adelaide’s IKEA will operate from 12-5pm.

Ikea in Perth will remain closed on Saturday but will open on Monday from 9am until 5pm.

When will Westfield open on Anzac Day?

You might need to check in with your local Westfield, and the stores inside of course, before heading in to shop.

Generally, most shopping centres will operate for reduced hours on Saturday.

Westfield in Sydney’s Pitt Street Mall will open from 1pm to 7pm, as will the one in Chatswood.

In Queensland, North Lakes and Chermside centres will be closed.

The Belconnen Westfield, in the ACT, will open from 1pm to 5pm on Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Monday.

The Westfield in Melbourne’s suburb of Doncaster will conduct business from 1-6pm while Southland will be 1-5pm.

In South Australia, Westfield at Marion will open 12-5pm, as will West Lakes and Tea Tree Plaza.

Westfield Carousel in WA will be closed on Saturday and open 11am to 5pm on Monday.

Whitford City, Innaloo and Booragoon stores will all have the same operating hours as Carousel.

Hobart’s Eastlands Shopping Centre, although it’s not a Westfield, will be open 12.30pm until 4pm.
