'I can't believe I did this': Teen's tribute to friend killed in horrific crash

The teen who was allegedly behind the wheel of a stolen car which crashed and killed one of its five passengers has posted a tribute on Facebook.

Jacob Hopkins, 14, from Redcliffe, died in the crash, after the car he was in ran a red light, collided with another vehicle and wound up wrapped around a pole at Rothwell, north of Brisbane on Wednesday.

The 14-year-old who was allegedly behind the wheel of the car has now posted a tribute to Facebook to the victim, Nine News reports.

“RIP JACOB my brother I can't believe I did this ... I shoulder (sic) stopped at the light ... I'm sorry it had to end this way ... I send me love to family and friends you's (sic) can hate me but it's not gonna change anything,” he reportedly wrote.

Nine News reported the teen was also pictured in his hospital bed using his hands to make a gang sign.

There have been several reports in the media that Jacob was affiliated to local Redcliffe gang Northside.

Jacob’s great aunt took to Facebook on Friday afternoon to quash speculation about his lifestyle and urged others to allow her family to grieve his death.

“Today I want to let all the judgements left aside to remember a young life taken too soon,” Kaylene Conradi said.

“Jacob Hopkins was a kind, caring boy who loved everyone and lived life to the full of his abilities.”

Three females aged 10, 14, and 16 were all hospitalised alongside a 13-year-old boy.

Police are appealing for any witnesses of the Rothwell crash, or anyone with dash cam footage of the Mazda 6 driving on Anzac Avenue prior to the crash, to contact Policelink on 131 444 or provide information using the online form 24hrs per day.
