Tragic text of teen who just got her licence hours before crash death

There have been tears and tributes left on the sandy stretch of road where a Western Australian teenager lost her life.

Kimberley Berente, from Mandurah, was celebrating being awarded her P-plates, but tragically she crashed just four hours after passing her driving test.

On Wednesday her friends lay flowers at the scene and mourned a bubbly, beautiful teenager.

At 8.41am on Tuesday morning, Kimberley sent an excited text message to a friend: “I got my licence!”

She picked up two of her best friends and they drove to the beach at the end of White Hill Road in Bouvard.

At 12.30pm, triple zero was called.

On a stretch of unsealed road, Kimberley had lost control of her car, which rolled several times.

Police say her head injuries were catastrophic.

Her two 16-year-old passengers managed to crawl from the wreckage, escaping with just cuts and bruises.

Kimberley was a Year 11 student and was passionate about motocross.

“You will always be in my heart, you precious, precious soul,” one friend posted on social media.

“You never know what it feels like to lose your best friend until you actually have lost them.

“You were such a beautiful person and you always lit up my day.”

Police don’t believe Kimberley was driving dangerously.

Investigators think she was just inexperienced on the road surface and didn’t know how to correct the car when it all went wrong.

Kimberley’s two passengers are recovering at Royal Perth Hospital, their families by their side as they process the grief of losing their friend.

Both girls are in a stable condition and will likely get to go home on Thursday.
