Aldi, Woolworths, Pizza Hut on huge list of new Covid exposure sites

Almost 50 new Covid-19 exposure sites have been identified after NSW recorded 177 new infections on Wednesday — the highest daily total of the current outbreak.

Of those, 46 were in the community for the entirety of their infectious period, 22 for part of their infectious period and another 62 remain under investigation.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian extended the lockdown in Greater Sydney, Wollongong, the Central Coast, Shellharbour and the Blue Mountains for a further four weeks out to August 28 as a result of the ballooning case numbers and exposure sites.

There are 165 people being treated in hospital for Covid-19, 56 are in intensive care, with 22 on ventilators. An 11th death was recorded from the outbreak.

The huge jump brings the total number of Covid-19 cases since the Bondi cluster emerged on June 16 to 2,574.
