Aldi customer fumes after weighing chicken ready meal

The shopper is calling for a change after putting the meal to the test.

After being "disappointed" with the amount of chicken in his favourite ready meal time and time again, an Aldi customer decided to put it to the test — finding it only made up one quarter of the total weight.

"This time I decided to find out how bad the situation is. I used a slotted spoon to fish out all the chicken and weigh it," he wrote online.

The World Kitchen Butter Chicken ready meal is 800 grams, however, after weighing the chicken from the packet alone it weighed in at 201 grams. The customer shared an image alongside his post as evidence to his claim, saying "the price is too high for sauce".

The ready meal is sold at Aldi for $9.99 but is currently on special for $8.99, yet the customer deemed the discounted price too expensive for what he got.

"They should either add more chicken or take it out and sell it as just a sauce, but at $4-$5, not closer to $9."

Food label must accurately reflect ingredients inside product

A food label must contain accurate weight and measures of ingredients inside the product, with the same measuring system used across Australia.

The ingredients on a food label must be listed in order of weight, with the largest first. With chicken listed in the name of the Aldi product, this should be the main ingredient — and heaviest weighing ingredient — in the ready meal, according to NSW Government Food Authority.

Alongside accurate weights and a full ingredient list, the product's health star rating, business information and date markings should be found on the label.

Yahoo News Australia understands customers can return any products Aldi customers are not happy with for a replacement or refund.
