A man has been charged after being caught riding a stolen scissor lift through Adelaide’s CBD early on Sunday morning.

Around 4am, police officers who were monitoring the CBD’s CCTV saw the 26-year-old driving the scissor lift down Hindley Street, according to police.

The man had taken the vehicle from a construction site before driving it along King William Street, Currie Street and Leigh Street.

He was then stopped and arrested by police after he drove along the footpath on Hindley Street.

The man was breath-tested and allegedly returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.138.

The 26-year old man, from Lightsville in Adelaide’s northeast, was charged with illegal use of a motor vehicle, drink driving and driving an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle.

He was also issued with an instant loss of licence for six months.

He was bailed to appear in Adelaide’s Magistrates Court in November.
