Actor arrested in $36 million Sydney drug bust


An actor has been reportedly identified as one of two Iranian nationals arrested over an alleged plot to bring $36 million worth of the drug ice into Sydney.

The men aged 27 and 37, were arrested at homes in Wentworth Point and North Parramatta on Wednesday. Both have been charged.

Detectives began investigating an alleged criminal network in western Sydney in June 2018 and uncovered a number of plots to import up to 40kg of the drug from overseas, police said.

The drugs would have been worth up to an estimated $36 million on the street.

The 27-year-old man appeared at Burwood Local Court on Wednesday while the 37-year-old man is due to face the Parramatta Local Court on Thursday.

One of the men has been identified by News Corp as 37-year-old refugee Hamid Ranjbarain, who starred in a national advertising campaign to encourage Australian migrants to become small businesses owners.
