ABC News Studios Expands ‘The Year’ With Two Specials

ABC News Studios is expanding its end-of-the-year special The Year, with Robin Roberts set to host one program focused on 2023 and another a look ahead at 2024.

The two-hour special The Year: 2023 will air at 9 p.m. ET on Dec. 27, with Roberts joined by her Good Morning America co-anchor George Stephanopoulos, along with World News Tonight anchor David Muir, 20/20 co-anchor Deborah Roberts, Nightline co-anchor Juju Chang, ABC News Live Prime anchor Linsey Davis, chief meteorologist and chief climate correspondent Ginger Zee, Lara Spencer of GMA and multiplatform reporter Ashan Singh. The look back will focus on major events and newsmakers of the past year.

In a statement, Roberts said that the part year “has been a consequential and defining year culturally, socially, and politically. The Year: 2023′ will key in on the challenges that drew our attention this past year, and also what united us and reminded us of the common humanity that connects us all.”

The network also will air the one-hour The Year: Countdown to 2024 at 7 p.m. ET on New Year’s Eve. Roberts will look at the best moments of the past year and look ahead to the coming 12 months. She will be joined by Roberts, Chang, Spencer, GMA3: What You Need to Know co-anchor Eva Pilgrim and ABC News correspondent Chris Connelly.

The specials will feature interviews with rapper and singer Jelly Roll, singer Ashanti, Jury Duty star Ronald Gladden, Golden Bachelor Gerry Turner and fiancee Theresa Nist, Missy Elliot and appearances by the cast of Dancing with the Stars.

Both specials are produced by ABC News Studios.
