‘I saw her hanging out’: Children describe moment mum is flung out of vehicle by carjacker

A Townsville mother has told of her horror when a man allegedly jumped on top of her in a violent car jacking in her own driveway.

Fiona Murakami managed to struggle with the attacker long enough for her three children to escape before the offender sped off in her car from her Cranbrook home on Wednesday evening.

Despite the 45-year-old left with her arm in a sling and badly bruised, she remains defiant.

"Oh.. I'm really angry," she told 7News.

As she pulled into her driveway and unlocked the door for her 12-year-old son to open the gate, a man allegedly leapt in on top of her.

"I tried to pull the door shut on him but he ripped it open. Next minute he's on my lap."

Scrape marks on the driveway show signs of where the struggle took place, as Ms Murakami punched the attacker in the face.

"I got a few really good hooks in but he didn't even flinch," she revealed.

She screamed for the other two teenagers to get out of the back seat.

"I saw my mum fall out of the car," one of her sons said.

"I saw her hanging out," her daughter said.

The mother recalled how the man reversed with her hanging out of the car.

"That's when the door slammed into my side and he took off.. he pushed me out of the car."

Ms Murakami's Mitsubishi was found near a highway and on Thursday morning, police arrested a 36-year-old man and charged him with robbery with violence.

"It's terrible.. this is unacceptable behaviour. We won't tolerate it," Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Hicks said.

Ms Murakami and her children had only moved into their home on Sunday.

It's the second time Ms Murakami has had her car stolen in a year.

"Not feeling too flash or secure at the moment," she admitted.
