Model who broke her back jumping from 'rapist' has been arrested
A Russian model who broke her spine after jumping from a sixth-floor balcony to escape an alleged rapist has been detained after her accused attacker made a counter claim against her.
Ekaterina Stetsyuk, 22, from Irkutsk, suffered serious back injuries and was unable to move or walk after breaking her back in the fall.
A friend of the model, Irina Grossman, said Ms Stetsyuk was forced to jump "to save her life and dignity".
"Her spine is broken, several vertebrae were crushed," The Sun reported Ms Grossman as saying.
"She cannot walk or move by herself, but doctors are giving a good prognosis because her spinal cord is intact."
Ms Stetsyuk claims she met with a businessman who had invited her to discuss a future business deal when the situation turned sour.
She alleges the man had been drinking and became violent, threatening her with a knife and demanding that she remove her clothes.
Ms Stetsyuk's mother, Inga, told local media in Moscow that the man "jumped on her and pulled her hair, then pushed her down on the floor".
She said her daughter was able to grab the knife and wound the man, allowing her enough time to run to the balcony.
The man, who has not been identified, was arrested soon after at the airport attempting to flee to Dubai.
His counterclaim against Ms Stetsyuk has not been made public, but as a result the recovering model has been arrested in her hospital bed and placed in a detention centre.
