Girl, 11, gets cosmetic surgery after torment from bullies
A mum has taken extreme measures to stop her daughter from getting bullied by allowing her to get cosmetic surgery.
Bella Harrington, 11, told WRIC News that she was being teased at school over her protruding ears.
“They would always, like, point it out, but then the more people pointed it out is when I wanted to change it. I thought that they stuck out way too much,” the 11-year-old said.
Bella’s mom, Sabrina, said that her daughter would get called “elf ears,” which is why she eventually allowed her to go under the knife.
Dr Joe Niamtu said cosmetic surgery is something that more younger patients are opting for, especially when it’s an issue that prompts bullying.
“We like to treat these children before they enter school, so it’s not uncommon that I’m doing 4 or 5-year-olds,” Dr Niamtu told WRIC.

“And the reason is bullying, or peer pressure. It’s been shown to – psychologically – to have the ability to affect their self-esteem or body image for the rest of their life.”
Sabrina said that if it makes you feel better about yourself, then so be it.
“It’s no different than getting braces, that changes your appearance.”
As for Bella – it’s been about two months since she’s had the surgery and she couldn’t be happier with the results.
“I wear my hair up a lot and I’m not like, focused on, if people can see them,” she said.
