Girl suffers critical head injuries after being struck by SUV

A schoolgirl has been rushed to hospital in a critical condition after a car accident in Sydney's north west.

The girl, 17, was hit by a Toyota Hulix SUV on Windsor Road in Baulkham Hills at about 4.35pm on Tuesday afternoon after she reportedly ran out into busy traffic.

She has suffered critical head injuries and has been rushed to Westmead Children's Hospital.

It is understood that the girl was unconscious and breathing when paramedics arrived.

"Paramedics arrived within minutes, unfortunately we found the girl was unconscious with critical head injuries," Chief Inspector Brian Parsell, NSW Ambulance, said.

The driver was unhurt in the collision but was taken to hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing.
