WATCH: Homeowner gives thirsty koala a drink during heatwave

As the mercury topped 42C in Adelaide on Saturday, the local wildlife was in need of a helping hand cooling down.

And the temptation of a drink was too much for one koala when an Adelaide Hills resident filled up a bowl of water in his garden for the parched marsupial to enjoy.

The homeowner managed to capture on camera the adorable moment the fluffy visitor slowly made its way out of the shade after staring intently as the garden hose filled up the bowl.

The koala proceeded to lap up the water, only briefly stopping to check for any intruders ready to interrupt its moment of hydration.

The backyard encounter comes only a week after a Victoria teen was filmed giving a thirsty Koala a full of bottle of water as it baked in the summer heat.
