'The Piefee': Bakery serves coffee in edible sweet bread cup

After 2017 brought us the trend of serving coffee in bizarre, makeshift mugs such as avocado skins or ice cream cones, one New Zealand bakery has jumped on the bandwagon and offered its own take on the novel craze.

Tasteful Bakehouse and Cafe in Auckland has created the 'piefee' - a concoction that has gone down a treat among locals after an initial trial last year, NZME reported.

The new addition to the menu, created by entrepreneur Ly, involves a slow-baked, dehydrated bun lined with chocolate and caramel before a customer's coffee of choice is poured inside.

The edible cup comes in a variety of forms, including one with sprinkles and another red velvet flavoured.

The piefee will go on sale to the public on January 27 after a new and improved recipe from the Ly's wife, Kahna Kong.

Ly says he nearly gave up on creating the ultimate piefee but as it began to garner considerable interest, he worked effortlessly to perfect his latest creation.
