WATCH: Two masked bandits rob Melbourne bank

Two masked men robbed a bank in Melbourne’s west on Thursday, while terrorising staff with what is believed to be a firearm.

In CCTV footage released by Victoria Police, one man appeared to be carrying a sawn-off shotgun as the pair entered the Bendigo Bank on Aviation Road, Laverton, shortly before 10am.

One man covered his head and face with a black balaclava, while the other wore a Guy Fawkes mask and fluorescent vest.

The clip shows a man with long light brown hair confronting a woman at the teller, before approaching a worker, while his accomplice searched behind the teller.

The two men made demands for cash, before fleeing with an undisclosed amount in a waiting vehicle, police said.

"The offenders have then stolen an amount of cash, before fleeing east on Aviation Road in a silver Nissan Pulsar that was parked nearby," a police spokesperson said in a statement.

Witness Michael George told the Herald Sun he was headed to the bank when the robbery unfolded.

“There were about four or five police officers running around,” he said.

The car drove along Central Avenue in Altona Meadows and was recovered a short time later.
