Your Christmas Day weather forecast

A spate of hot weather across the country has prompted Australians to expect a scorcher on Christmas day - but a late, cool change could see plans change.

While most capital cities have a balmy day forecast, a possible trough could bring a cooler weather to southeastern Australia.

Sydney is expecting a hot Christmas Eve at 35 degrees, but a late cool change could bring the mercury down to the mid-20s for Christmas Day with some showers.

“The Sydney forecast for Christmas Eve is currently 35C, so it could be a pretty hot night, depending on the timing of the cool change,” meteorologist Rob Sharpe told news.com.au.

Both Melbourne and Adelaide are expecting a mild Christmas day of 21C and 23C respectively.

This will be a welcome relief after a spate of weather in the high 30's for both cities in the lead-up to Christmas.
