Pregnant woman fired after boss finds out about her 'condition'

A new mother claims she was let go from her job after her employer found out she was pregnant.

Zahra Deghanifard - who worked as a temp for a sewing machine operator - claims her employer, Canadian Linen and Uniform Services, referred to her pregnancy as a "condition".

She had planned to stay on with the company throughout her pregnancy and return once she was able to after the baby arrived, Canada's CBC News reports.

"I like working with my hands and I like sewing, and I had good friends there," she said.

Ms Deghanifard started the job in August 2016 and had taken some time off during her employment to visit her family in Iran.

When she returned from her trip to Iran, she found out she was pregnant.

Just one week after she told her supervisor she had told her supervisor she was pregnant, she told them she wasn't feeling well and that she wouldn't be in.

She planned to go back the next day but before she could her manager sent her a text message.

"It was brought to my attention of your condition. I am sorry that I cannot take a chance of something happening to you. I am truly sorry but I can not use you anymore."

Shocked, she tried calling but there was no answer.

Ms Deghanifard said she went to work the next day to assure them she was able to work.

"He told me, 'we are worried about you, we can't take any responsibilities.' I told him, 'I have to take responsibilities, it's on me, not you,'" Ms Deghanifard said.

"I was super sad and I was disappointed. I didn't expect that attitude from them."
