Girl dies after 'brutal' boss forces her to do 100 squats

A teenager has died 10 days after her brutal boss ordered her to perform 100 squats for arriving late to work.

The 15-year-old Chinese girl, nicknamed Xiao Fei, died from respiratory failure on August 7.

She had quit her studies and borrowed a friend’s ID to work at a real estate company in Zhongshan City to pay off her father’s medical bills and for his uremia medication.

But when Fei showed up late for work on one occasion, her father told Guangdong Television Broadcast, she was asked to do 100 deep squats.

“My daughter was not feeling well after and bought some medicine. But she cannot move her legs,” he said.

Her boss confirmed he had asked her to do the exercise, but it was “not a punishment”.

Fei struggled to move days after performing the squats before she eventually became paralysed and started vomiting.

Her mother took her to Hunan in southern China for medical help and, after being placed in intensive care at Central South University, Xiangya No 2 Hospital; she was diagnosed with a rare and serious disorder.

Doctor’s notes claim Fei had Guillain-Barre syndrome, which affects the nervous system.

It did not confirm if the syndrome was linked to deep squatting.

Her employers have since rubbished claims the squats caused her death.
