Man 'beaten to death by up to 15 men following fight over selfie'

An American college graduate was allegedly beaten to death on a Greek Island because of an argument over a selfie, according to a report.

Bakari Henderson, 22, was visiting Greece with friends but became wrapped up in a heated confrontation involving two bar staff and a number of customers over a picture with a waitress, Greek police spokesman Theodore Chronopoulos told the Washington Post.

Mr Chronopoulos said Henderson was attacked by as many as 15 men and his death came from hits to the head.

Surveillance footage from the incident on Friday outside a bar on the Greek island of Zakynthos showed Henderson being chased before a gang began to attack him in the street.

Mr Chronopoulos confirmed the video is authentic.

Nine men have been arrested and charged with intentional homicide including a 34-year-old Greek bartender, a 32-year-old Serbian man with British citizenship, six Serbians aged between 18-25 and the 33-year-old who police believe started the fight.

Mr Chronopoulos said the dispute began during a bar night devoted to Serbians.

It’s alleged Henderson and a 33-year-old Serbian got into an argument over a selfie with a waitress before the man hit the 22-year-old.

It’s further alleged Henderson then smashed a beer bottle on the table before he was chased by about 10 to 15 men who beat him.

But Daniel Brown, one of three friends with Henderson on the island, said they were speaking to no one when the suspects initiated the fight.

He said they immediately started CPR on Henderson after the suspects left and rushed him to a hospital.

Travis Jenkins, another friend of Henderson’s, said he was not the type to get into fights.

“He was always the one who was the peacemaker,” Mr Jenkins said.

It’s unclear whether the nine men charged all know each other.

Henderson’s friends have since started a GoFundMe page to raise money for his funeral and to return his body to the US.
