Mother 'ties son up in car, sets vehicle alight'

An 11-year-old Michigan boy is said to be recovering after his mother allegedly tied him up in the family car and set the car alight.

The woman allegedly bound her son at the wrists, locked him inside the car and lit a fire in the boot.

She also tried to light a fire using petrol inside the passenger area where the boy was sitting.

The woman then freed her son and the duo walked around the cemetery until they found a member of the staff, who then freed the boy from the ties.

Police responded to a call this week from a man who said his wife might have harmed their son.

The family’s 2014 Ford Focus was on fire at the local cemetery when police arrived and it was emitting smoke from the passenger area.

Initially the 48-year-old woman and her son couldn’t be found but police found the duo in a different part of the cemetery talking to members of the staff.

The 11-year-old is said to be doing well after the incident.

Police arrested the woman and charged her with attempted murder and arson.
