Turkish water park electrocution victims identified as investigation continues

The first pictures have emerged of the five people who died after being electrocuted at a Turkish water park.

The images are of the three boys, aged between 12 and 17 who died and of the two men, the manager of the park and his son, who were also reportedly killed while trying to save them.

Local media identified the three boys as Gokay Yildrim, 12, Nurullah Untulurk, 15, and Mert Kalic, 17.

The three were caught up in an electrical current in the pool of a northwest Turkey water park on Friday, according to reports from the Anadolu Agency.

The park’s manager Mehmet Kaya, 58, and his son Kadir Kaya, 30, died after jumping in to save them.

The Mirror reports all five victims are believed to be Turkish.

All five were rushed to a hospital in Akyazi but could not be saved.

Two other people were also reportedly hurt after touching metal railings near the pool.

Police officers were conducting an investigation into what caused the electrocutions, the private Dogan news agency reported.

It added, however, that the park lacked a residual current breaker that shuts down power to prevent electrical shocks.

Turkish news agency Hurriyet said the pool area was surveyed and "according to initial determinations, one of the cables in the vicinity contacted with the water".

Investigations continue.
