Teacher gives student 'most likely to become a terrorist' award

A 13-year-old girl has been hurt and upset after she received a 'most likely to become a terrorist' award in a mock school ceremony.

Other awards in the Texas school's ceremony included 'most likely to cry for every little thing' and 'most likely to become homeless, the Washington Post reports.

Student Lizeth Villanueva said she was left in shock after she was handed the award.

Her mother, Ena Hernandez said she couldn't believe the award when she saw it.

"I was upset and very mad when I saw the award, she told the Post

“I was surprised because my daughter has been doing well in the honors program.”

Lizeth said two honours classes were brought together for the fake ceremony and while the awards were handed out by one teacher, the three other teachers in the room laughed.

Channelview Independent School District spokesman Mark Kramer told KPRC the awards were a “poor attempt to poke fun” and it “wasn’t well thought out.”

Hernandez said the principal Eric Lathan personally apologised during a meeting at the school.

Hernandez says she wants them fired or else “they will continue doing the same thing.”

Lizeth hasn’t been back to school because she “feels uncomfortable.”

The students who received the "awards" were enrolled in AVID, an advanced learning and college prep program.
