Congressman slammed for mocking Jimmy Kimmel's son's open heart surgery

A former congressman has been ridiculed for a “cold-hearted” tweet taking aim at Jimmy Kimmel and his newborn son after he underwent open-heart surgery.

The TV talk show host fought back tears as he revealed his little boy Billy was battling a rare heart condition and had to undergo life-or-death surgery, just three days after his birth.

While audience members were visibly heartbroken by the news, former Republican Joe Walsh had no time for pleasantries, writing: “Sorry Jimmy Kimmel: your sad story doesn’t obligate me or anybody else to pay for somebody else’s health care.”

Walsh was referring to Kimmel’s opening monologue where he threw his support behind former President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act.

“We were brought up to believe that we live in the greatest country in the world, but until a few years ago, millions and millions of us had no access to health insurance at all,” Kimmel said during Monday’s show.

“Before 2014, if you were born with congenital heart disease, like my son was, there’s a good chance you’d never be able to get health insurance because you had a pre-existing condition.”

Unfortunately for Walsh, social media users were quick to remind him of his $117,000 child support scandal that he settled back in 2012.

Walsh notably rejected the congressional health insurance plan for his own family, leaving them uninsured when his wife required surgery shortly after.

“Joe, you won’t even pay child support for your OWN kids. We already knew you felt this way, you worm. No need to tell us — we’re good,” comedian Patton Oswalt tweeted.

Obama, who has previously appeared on Jimmy Kimmel live, later thanked the new dad for his support.
