Police prepare for Anzac Day threats around Australia

Security is set to be beefed up at Anzac Day services around the country this year in the wake of recent terror attacks.

NSW Police say there is "no known specific threat" to Anzac Day events next week, but security measures will be bolstered across Sydney.

Vehicle barriers will be set up in public places and extra police officers will be deployed.

In Adelaide, road blocks will be set up on both sides of a esplanade at Brighton for the first time, with 6,000 people expected to attend services there.

Extra barricades will also be set up in Adelaide's Semaphore and in the city.

This follows a number of attacks here and overseas where people have deliberately mowed down crowds in cars and trucks.

"Police are well aware of the need for extra security measures during large public gatherings such as Anzac Day commemorations," a NSW police spokeswoman said in a statement on Friday.

"Law enforcement and intelligence agencies are doing all they can to ensure the safety of the public."

Sydneysiders will experience an increased police presence this weekend as US Vice President Mike Pence jets into the city on Friday night for the Australian leg of his Asia-Pacific tour.

NSW Police says motorists will not be able to park along certain roads, with special clearways set up in and around the Sydney CBD, Kirribilli and Mosman between 10am on Friday and 10am on Monday.

People will see "a range of police resources" around the CBD and Sydney Harbour, and those planning to use public transport, including ferries, are being advised to check ahead for any disruptions.
