Eight-year-old boy drives to McDonald's for a cheeseburger

Imagine having to pick your eight-year-old son and four-year-old daughter up from the police station simply because they wanted McDonalds.

That’s exactly what happened for two Ohio parents after their eight-year-old son drove himself and his sister to McDonalds after he reportedly learnt how to drive on YouTube.

East Palestine officer Jacob Koehler told the Morning Journal the bizarre incident happened on the weekend.

According to Mr Koehler, the police department received numerous calls about a child behind the wheel of a car.

Witnesses told police the boy had surprisingly impressive driving skills and didn’t do any damage to his father’s car or anyone else’s vehicle.

The boy reportedly followed all traffic laws, including stopping at red lights and waiting for other cars to pass before making a left turn into the parking lot of McDonald’s.

Located about two-and-a-half kilometres from the family’s home, the boy drove straight into the drive through and pulled up at the window.

The employees at the fast-food restaurant thought it was a prank.

"The workers thought that the parents were in the back," Mr Koehler said.

"Obviously they weren't."

When police arrived to the McDonald's, the boy started crying and explained that he was hungry and wanted a cheeseburger.

Police said the kids planned on paying for the meal with money from their pocket money.

Mr Koehler told the outlet that the parents were back at the home asleep and had no idea their children had left.

No charges were filed and police said this was not a case of neglect; the children had already eaten three times that day.

The parents picked up the kids at the police station.
