Images released by FBI show devastation of Pentagon 9/11 attacks

The FBI has released a series of devastating photos taken during the aftermath of the 9/11 terror attack on the Pentagon.

A series of 27 images were uploaded to the FBI's website with the title '9/11 Attacks and Investigation Images’ and show destructive scenes in the aftermath of the attack in 2001.

The photos show the huge hole in the façade where a jet, hijacked by Islamic jihadists, slammed into the building, first responders battling huge blazes at the complex, debris from American Airlines Flight 77’s fuselage and haunting images from the burnt interior of the Arlington, Virginia landmark.

The attack killed 184 innocent people including 125 Pentagon employees and 59 passengers and crew on the plane. It came shortly after two planes crashed into the World Trade Centre in New York City.

A fourth plane headed for Washington DC crashed into a field. A total of 2996 people were killed in the terrorist attacks.

It took fire crews days to extinguish all blazes. The jet that crashed into the Pentagon ripped a hole in the structure that extended more than 100 yards into the building.
