WATCH: Thrillseekers taking on Cyclone Debbie floodwaters

Queensland Police have expressed their disappointment at risk-takers entering floodwaters despite repeated warnings to stay away.

As floods threaten several communities in NSW and Queensland in the aftermath of cyclone Debbie, video has been shared online of people chasing thrills in floodwaters.

Queensland Deputy Police Commissioner Steve Gollschewski reminded people on Friday of the risk they are creating for both themselves and emergency services personnel.

"It is disappointing to see people take risks in this environment," he told an emergency services media conference in Brisbane.

"We had a person rescued last night that had driven into waters with family members, that person was arrested for drink-driving afterward that sort of behaviour still goes on.

"This causes stress to our community and emergency services and first responders."

In a video posted to Facebook by user Sam Berry, a group of men take to dangerous flood waters on the Tweed River in Murwillumbah in north-east NSW to test the bodyboarding and jet ski conditions.

As they try to surf the surging river a jet ski joins the party and tows another surfer onto the wave.

Not all goes to plan though when one person loses the fight against the current and is dragged backwards.

The video has since had over 100,000 views.

Most comments on the post were critical of the group’s antics with many Facebook users concerned for their acts potentially dragging emergency personnel away from other jobs.

“Are you guys serious? I hope an emergency services worker doesn't have to risk their lives to find you when you get swept away,” one user wrote.

“Then they expect someone to risk their life to come get them when it all turns to s**t,” another person commented.

However, some didn’t take it as seriously as others.

“Haha lucky you boys are Stella surfers,” one user posted.

Other videos posted to social media by locals show more people taking the risk when they enter rapidly moving flood waters including some jet skiing on a cricket field outside a school in Morningside, Brisbane.
