'No to violence against women': Woman doused in petrol and stabbed by Tinder date speaks out

A doctor who was stabbed 11 times and doused in petrol by an ex-boyfriend she met on Tinder has broken her silence to speak out against domestic violence.

Earlier this month Paul Lambert, 36, violently assaulted Angela Jay at her home in Port Macquarie.

Marking White Ribbon Day today the young doctor has called for an end to violence against women.

Dr Jay wrote an emotional Facebook post detailing how she "nearly lost her life three weeks ago".

She wrote: "Already this year in Australia 60+ women have not been so lucky, and it breaks my heart knowing exactly how terrified and alone they must have felt".

Dr Jay also altered her Facebook profile picture to one which shows support for the White Ribbon Day campaign.

"I say no to violence against women and girls," text at the bottom of her updated profile picture reads.

Police have said Lambert, who Dr Jay met on Tinder, had a "sick fantasy" to rape her and then set her house on fire.

The Sydney finance worker broke into her house armed with a knife and waited for the young woman to come home from work.

He had placed her underwear on her bed along with cable ties that he planned to use in the rape, before pouring petrol on the bed and her walk-in wardrobe, The Daily Telegraph reported.

When she arrived home he stabbed her multiple times before dousing her in petrol.

Bleeding heavily, Dr Jay escaped by running through her family room and down the driveway to a neighbour's house where she collapsed in a pool of her own of blood.

Lambert reportedly had a history of domestic violence.

In May 2015, he was deported from the US for breaching a restraining order against a former love interest.

It is claimed he changed his name in July 2015 in a bid to make "a fresh start".

Lambert was killed by police after he led them on a pursuit near Coffs Harbour.
