Revenge of the nerds: Gaming store shames thieves caught stealing consoles

An Adelaide gaming store has declared war on shoplifters, publishing CCTV footage of sneaky thieves in a bid to name and shame the culprits.

One video shows a mum slipping expensive gaming consoles into her handbag as her toddler sits blissfully unaware in the trolley.

Then, while no one is looking, she casually drops a headset into the trolley.

Anthony Carbone, who owns Gametraders in Salisbury with his brother Joey, said he was disgusted by the brazen thief.

“Using a kid to hide items I thought was beyond pathetic,” he told 7 News.

Three days later, a man was filmed shoving a $70 plush toy into his high-vis jacket.

“It's just shocking, I don't even like watching it to be honest,” Anthony said.

“Every little item taken, it affects us. We've got a mortgage, we've got bills to pay,” Joey added.

The brothers have posted the CCTV to social media to let the public help them catch the suspects.

“We've had a fair few people contacting us with names,” Joey said. “I'm pretty sure we're going to catch them.”

The Carbone brothers have only run the store for six months and have a simple message for those relentlessly targeting their business.

In Anthony’s words: “Get a job, work hard and pay for what you want. Don't just steal it.”

Police are investigating the matter and anyone with information is urged to come forward.
