Melbourne toddler rescued after falling into drain pipe
A Melbourne toddler has been rescued after spending more than an hour stuck in a drain pipe.
Two-year-old Sam was playing in his Narre Warren backyard with brother Jack when he went to get his blue ball which went down a drain.
“He lifted the lid and he falled down,” big brother Jack said.
Mum Louise came rushing out and tried to pull the toddler free by using oil.
But when that failed, she called 000 with 30 emergency crews arriving at the scene.
“He was just playing. I had only let him outside not even 10 minutes beforehand,” mum Louise O’Neill said.
The inquisitive toddler was trapped from his hip down and couldn’t move with his leg wedged in the drain.
Rescue crews were able to dig around Sam, down past the length of his leg and lift him out.
“I was just so relieved,” Louise said.
Little Sam was rescued without a scratch, with Louise thanking emergency crews for their efforts.
