Axe-wielding man in clown mask goes on crime spree, woman left injured

A woman has been injured in a terrifying Adelaide western suburbs crime spree, involving a man who was wearing a clown mask.

He and another man stole a safe from a crash repairer before holding up a service station armed with axes and knives.

There has been a 'clown craze' sweeping the globe, with people dressing up as clowns to scare others.

However, the craze is no joke, as at 7pm on Friday night two men, one wearing a clown mask, pulled up outside Eblen Collision Repairs.

"They smashed the window, they got in and ransacked the office at the back and managed to get a safe out," said Peter Eblen, the owner of Eblen Collision Repairs.

It was still daylight when the crime took place and it played out in front of at least one passing motorist.

They hit their next target about 30 minutes later.

Police say they terrorised staff at a service station with axes and knives and stole cash. One member of staff suffered minor injuries.

Earlier in the week, SA Police Commissioner Grant Stevens said anyone who dresses up as a creepy clown with the intention of scaring other people should not expect much sympathy from police if a victim retaliates.

“Anyone who dresses up as a clown with the intention of scaring other people can only be described as a d*******, as far as I’m concerned,” said Stevens.
