A man who had "groomed" a 13-year-old girl and told her he would be "honoured" to take her virginity was sprung by online paedophile hunters in the UK.

Simon Bagley was on his way to meet Charlotte, a fictitious girl he had been "grooming" on social networking site Hi 5, The Sun UK reported.

The 42-year-old man was riding his bicycle around Times Square in Newcastle when he was snared by Dark Justice, a vigilante group that entraps paedophiles.

In the video, a paedophile hunter confronted Bagley and said: “You wanted to have sex with this girl, yes? You wanted to take her virginity sir.”

Bagley from Hendon, Sunderland, sat speechless on his bicycle as the vigilantes read out two messages he sent to the fictitious girl.

“You’ve come to meet a 13-year-old girl for sex?” the man asked Bagley.

“Why would I come on my bike?” the paedophile said.

“Well you would come on your bike wouldn’t you sir, which would be a defense in case it was a trap,” the man said.

The Newcastle Crown Court heard Bagley told the fictitious girl that her age did not matter and that he would be "honoured" to take her virginity.

He also requested the "young girl" sent him a photo of her dressed and made other sexually explicit comments.

Judge Paul Sloan QC sentenced Bagley to 12 months in prison, suspended for two years, ordered him to sign the sex offenders’ register for five years and imposed a 60-day rehabilitation order, the newspaper reported.

The judge told Bagley in court: “You asked her inappropriate questions like if she had nice boobs.

“You wanted pictures of her in her school uniform. You went to meet the girl at Times Square and were shocked when you were confronted by members of Dark Justice.

“You then told police that you were only there to teach Charlotte about dangers, something I simply don’t accept.

“I can see that your parents have come out to support you, and they have continued to support you throughout.

"If this was more than an attempt then you would be given an immediate custodial sentence," the judge added.
