'The window exploded in my face' Drive by attack leaves Melbourne woman with blurred vision

A young female driver was followed by a “black car with tinted windows” before she was injured in a shocking attack at a major Melbourne intersection.

Joanna Christodoulou, 23, suffered four abrasions to her eye and a deep cut to her forehead after picking up her younger brother and his friend from a party in Lysterfield.

The Moorabbin resident said she noticed a “black car with tinted windows” emerge from a side street and begin following her for some time.

“At the time I didn’t think anything of it,” she said.

“As I got closer to Oakleigh, the car had been tailgating me for about two-minutes.”

Aware something was not right, Ms Christodoulou “sped up and changed lanes” before a red light at the North Road and Warrigal Road intersection forced her to come to a stop.

“As I stopped, he slowly came up to me alongside the right-hand side of my car," she said. “One of them said ‘hey’, as I turned my head to the right, that’s when the window exploded in my face.”

“I didn’t do anything to provoke them… cut them off or anything like that.”

The male who was described as wearing dark clothing with dark features leant out the passenger window holding a “long black weapon” and proceeded to smash the child care worker’s window before speeding off.

“I couldn’t see anything, the only thing that I could do was pull over and scream," Ms Christodoulou said.

“My brother said ‘you’re bleeding, you’re bleeding’”.

After putting the car in park and locking the doors, Ms Christodoulou’s brother notified the police and their parents.

Police officers and paramedics arrived at the scene not long after the assault, washing out Christodoulou’s eye and escorting the victim and her mother to a nearby hospital.

She has been left with blurred vision and forced to take a week’s unpaid leave from her job.

The 17-year-old brother and his friend were escorted to the Oakleigh Police Station where they filed a report, while her father removed the damaged car from the road.

Christodoulou posted about her ordeal on Facebook saying "It disgusts me to know how low people have become".

Police told Yahoo7 they are investigating the incident.
