Six stabbed as neo-Nazis and counter-protestors clash in violent stand off in California
At least six people have been stabbed during a clash between white supremacists and opposing protesters at a rally in California.
Some have been seriously injured, according to reports.
Emergency crews took six people who were stabbed outside the California state Capitol building in Sacramento to hospital, fire department spokesman Chris Harvey says.
Harvey says a rally by KKK and other right-wing extremists groups turned violent Sunday, when they were met by counter-protesters.
A large fight broke out after people carrying sticks rushed into the area where the rally was being held.
Harvey says California Highway Patrol officers managed to break up the large fight but that some members of both groups remain in the area.
Pictures from the scene show medical workers treating a number of bleeding people, many which appear to be gushing blood from their heads.
Others appear to be wounded in their abdomens.
The LA Times reports emergency responders arrived outside the Capitol at about 11:45 on Sunday to find bodies strewn across the area in the aftermath of the melee.
It said the white nationalist group the Traditionalist Worker Party had been holding a rally which was opposed by counter protestors who labeled the marchers ‘Nazi scum’.
Police said the counter protestors had come ‘ready to fight’, with images from the scene showing members of the group bearing wooden weapons.
There were also reports a camera operator from a local TV news crew was attacked with a skateboard during the violent confrontation.
