Police said the woman was a victim of a vicious assault and had traumatic knife wounds to her head and face.

Factory workers made the grim discovery of her body at 7am, near a large pool of blood on a driveway, just 500 metres from her home and items of woman's clothing were also found strewn across a nearby park.

More than two years after the fatal attack, a 22-year-old Clyde North man has been arrested in Cranbourne and is being interviewed by police.

The arrest on Wednesday comes three months after detectives revealed Ms Featherston was seen with a man on the evening of her death.
