Three party boys on night out accidentally end up in Syria

Three party boys from the UK who thought they were boarding a dolphin-watching tour boat in Cyprus have accidentally ended up at a military base in Syria.

Lewis Ellis, 25, Alex McCormick, 19, and James Wallman, 23, only discovered they were on the wrong boat half way through the 200-kilometre trip after boarding in Avia Napa on Tuesday, the trio told The Mirror.

Clad in boardies and hungover from the night before, the trio said it was only when the geolocating technology revealed their exact location when they tried to post on social media that they realised their mistake.

"The last club closed at 7.30am so we just powered through to our 9am boat trip and ended up blagging our way onto the wrong boat,” Ellis told The Mirror.

"We were wearing boardshorts, hungover, looking like we were ready for a boat party.

"Everyone was foreign and it was pretty much half way out from the island when we asked 'how come we're so far away from land?'

"We got pretty far out and at that point we were looking at each other thinking 'what the f*** do we do now?'.

The boys were greeted by Russian military police in Tartus, Syria.

"After hours and hours we turned up in this place and we were like 'what the f***, where are we?"

The trio said they were first told to stay on the boat at first, however they later claim they were driven onto a Russian military base.

"Eventually we found a translator and when we told him he just fell about laughing,” McCormick said.

"We hung round in their quarters and they took pictures of us before we could get the boat back."

Russia does have a naval base in the port of Tartus.

The city is one of Syria's few gateways to the Mediterranean.

Hundreds of thousands of people have been killed in Syria's brutal civil war with the rise of ISIS extremists who have claimed the country as their base.

Just 24 hours after their bizarre adventure began, the trio are safely back home.

There is no word yet if the lads are still interested in doing a dolphin tour.
