Perth child psychiatrist arrested after allegedly caught filming boy in toilet

A Perth child psychiatrist has been arrested after he was allegedly caught filming a young boy in a shopping centre toilet.

Dr Aaron Voon, of the Successful Development and Therapy Centre in Cockburn, was arrested by Canadian police on May 22.

He was arrested on suspicion of child pornography charges, after the incident in Edmonton, Alberta, where he was allegedly caught using a mobile phone to film a boy in the toilet of a movie theatre.

Dr Voon, 41, from Perth, was reportedly filmed during a confrontation with the young boy’s father outside the toilet in the mall’s Scotiabank Theatre.

The man, reportedly the boy’s father, can be heard saying ‘is this recording?’.

Video shows a man grabbing hold of Dr Voon’s arm, and telling the camera that he was in the bathroom and had put a camera down next to his son.

The men then demanded for Dr Voon to ‘show us your camera’.

“You were caught red handed with your camera angled when some boy was peeing,” one of the men yelled.

The footage was shared online by a local news site.

Dr Voon had been attending a screening of The Angry Birds movie, before the alleged incident took place.

He was later arrested by Canadian police and faced charges of possessing child pornography, making child pornography and voyeurism.

Fairfax reported that administrators at Dr Voon’s pediatric clinic had emailed parents and industry professionals a message from him.

Dear colleagues, patients and family,' the message reportedly read.

“A most terrible thing has happened with me in the past week whilst overseas which I will need to manage urgently... I will have to cease practice immediately indefinitely.”

“For patients and family I am so sorry for leaving you so suddenly. I can honestly state that these issues have been TOTALLY separate from work and I have always provided you and your children with the best possible, safe and appropriate care.

“For colleagues, I seek your urgent support in taking over care ... my deepest apologies again and grateful appreciation for the past opportunity to work together.

“I hope that I will have the chance to work solidly on my personal issues and start afresh some time in the future.”

It’s reported that the clinic has closed ‘indefinitely’.

There is no suggestion that Dr Voon had been involved in illegal activity in Australia.

Dr Voon specialised in treating children with social, emotional and behavioural issues such as depression, anxiety, ADHS and autism.
His appointments ranged from $750-$990 for a 90 minute consultation.
