Accused monkey bike killer could gain another chance at freedom

A teenager accused of running down and killing a young mother has been dragged before court again, accused of breaching his bail.

Police want Caleb Jakobsson behind bars, but the magistrate is weighing up whether to grant him his third chance at freedom.

Since Jakobsson was charged with mowing down mother-of-two Andrea Lehane on his monkey bike in September last year, Jakobsson's problems with the law have continued.

He was released by the Supreme Court on strict bail conditions but last month was back in jail after breaching his curfew.

He was found hiding in bushes when police went to arrest him but again, and magistrate Charlie Rozencwajg released him on bail.

He is now back in court for again allegedly breaching his bail.

The magistrate was told by a relative this afternoon, Jakobson had breached his curfew not once but eight times.

She said he often returned home in the early hours of the morning and she didn't know who he was with.

Jakobson has since begun a relationship with a 30-year-old mother of one.

Magistrate Rozencwajg late on Thursday suppressed further evidence of Jakobsson’s alleged breaches, on the grounds it was prejudicial to any further proceedings.

During the hearing, the prosecution said the 19-year-old had shown a flagrant disregard for orders made by the Supreme Court and applied to have his bail revoked.

The magistrate will make a decision on whether Jakobson will return to jail on Monday.

In the mean time he was released on bail, again.
