‘Australia never Post’: Is this our nations laziest postman?

Postman Pat and his black and white cat could surely even do a better job than this guy.

An outraged Australia Post customer has taken to social media to vent his frustrations after home surveillance footage captured what appears to be to a lethargic ‘attempt‘ at a postal delivery.

In the vision posted to Facebook the driver can be seen walking up the entranceway of the residence and simply placing a card under the door without attempting to first knock or ring the doorbell.

The footage also shows a postman approaching the house with what appears to be the device customers electronically sign when they take possession of a parcel.

However, confusingly, the postie is not carrying a parcel during the attempted delivery.

The unsuccessful delivery is over in 10 seconds as the postman seems to make virtually no attempt to actively make the resident aware of his presence on the property.

As part of his online rant disgruntled customer Billy Tang wrote, “Is it that hard to knock on the door or pressing on the door bell?”

“Should I take a sickie so I can go to my local post office to pick up the parcel?”

“Yet another Australia Never Post moment!” he vented onto the social media platform.

It’s not clear in the video whether the postman is an official Australia Post employee or contractor.

The van isn’t visible in the footage and the uniform is hidden beneath a jacket.

“I think this is all part of Australia Post's tactics to generate more revenue! This is so inconvenient for the customer!” Tang ends his post by writing.

In response to the footage Australia Post responded to the client by stating, “This video certainly does not appear to display our correct process for delivery and I apologise for this disappointing experience. When delivering we need to check to see if you are home and allow you time to come to the door."

“We should only leave a collection card if we receive no response. I’d like to report this incident to your local delivery centre and ensure the correct process is used in future.”

Last year, Australia Post suffered a full-year loss of $222m.

The reason given was that in the age of the internet, fewer people are relying on traditional mail.

Australia Post said there has been no reduction in its performance levels.

In January, it delivered 98.6 percent of letters on time or early, better than the government requires.

An Australia Post spokesperson released the following statement to Yahoo7.

"We are currently investigating this issue to confirm if this is an Australia Post driver."

"If this is an Australia Post driver, their actions are in breach of our delivery policy. Our policy is to knock and call out three times to see if anyone is home before leaving a card. If the driver has not followed the correct procedure, appropriate action will be taken. "
