Pilot miraculously walks away from burning plane wreckage

The pilot of a light aircraft that smashed into tree tops in Alabama has miraculously walked out of the burning wreckage with only a cut to his hand.

Nearby security cameras captured the heart-stopping moment the Cessna 421Twin Engine plane came crashing through the branches to a fiery halt at the base of a large tree in the small town of Foley.

Witnesses can be seen rushing to help, before hesitating in front of the flaming debris, seemingly afraid of an explosion.

One man can be seen running to his car before driving to get help.

The flames quickly engulf the area around the plane, sending black smoke into the air.

A few more people arrive on the scene and within minutes of the plane making its crash landing, the pilot, identified as Russell Smith, is escorted to safety.

Mr Smith said he had been flying for 50 years and this was his first accident, The Sun reported.

After the crash, he made his way back to the airport to pick up his car and apparently didn't even seek medical help.

Miraculously, Mr Smith's only injury was a cut to his hands, local media said.

An investigation into the crash has been launched.
