Prince reportedly treated for 'drug overdose' days before music icon's death

Prince was reportedly treated for a drug overdose six days before he died.

TMZ reports multiple sources have said the pop music icon was rushed to hospital and doctors gave him a ‘save shot’ typically administered to counteract the effects of an opiate.

Sources claimed doctors advised Prince to stay in hospital for 24 hours.

It’s believed his people requested a private room, when they were told this wasn’t possible he reportedly decided to leave.

The singer was discharged after three hours and flown home.

It’s believed when Prince left the hospital ‘he was not doing well’.

Police in Minnesota are reportedly working to obtain medical records to help determine the cause of death.

Prince’s body was discovered in an elevator at his Paisley Park compound in Minnesota, early Thursday morning.

On the morning of his death, publicist Yvette Noel-Schure said: "It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57."

The singer, who was known for his sexually charged lyrics and electric performances, made a final public appearance at a show on Sunday, where he did not sing, but said: 'Wait a few days before you waste any prayers'.

AP reports that deputies were called to Prince's studio and found the star unresponsive in elevator, CPR failed at the scene.

Police have confirmed his death is not suspicious.

TMZ reports he was also reportedly seen 'looking frail' at around 7pm last night in what was his fourth visit to a pharmacy this week.


In a call to paramedics on the way to Prince's home, a 911 dispatcher said: 'Male down, not breathing.'

The singer – full name Prince Rogers Nelson – had a medical emergency on April 15th that forced his private jet to make an emergency landing in Illinois.

But he appeared at a concert the next day to assure his fans he was okay.

His people told TMZ he was battling the flu.

Prior to his most recent appearance however, Prince had cancelled two shows due to health concerns. Prince became an international superstar in 1982 after his breakthrough album “1999."

He went on to churn out a ton of hits – and racking up 7 Grammys in the process. He also performed at the Super Bowl in 2007 … in one of the greatest live performances of all time.

He also sold more than 100 million records during his career … and the Academy Award for Best Original Song Score for Purple Rain in 1985.

Prince was married two times – the first time to his backup dancer Mayte Garcia. They split in 2000. He then married Manuela Testolini … but they split in 2006.

Hollywood stars have swamped social media with streams of messages of disbelief about the death of the superstar.

Samuel L. Jackson, Lindsay Lohan, Russell Crowe, Cara Delevingne, Ryan Seacrest, Kris Jenner and Olivia Wilde have all paid tribute to late singer Prince.

Jackson said he has beeb been left devastated after the 'When Doves Cry' hitmaker died.

He tweeted: "I'm Crushed!! UK news reporting Prince Is Dead?! For Real?! Massive Loss for us all! What a Genius! Speechless.(sic)"

Dame Joan Collins was equally stunned by the news.

She posted: "Shocked that @prince has died at only 57. Such a talent to have died so young #RIPPrince (sic)"

Cara Delevingne and Russell Crowe were both in disbelief at the news.

Cara wrote: "Please no! Some one please tell me it isn't true #PRINCEWILLNEVERDIE (sic)"

Russell posted: "Prince? Say it isn't so...(sic)"
