Grey 'ghost car' smashes into ute on Melbourne highway

A “ghost car” mysteriously appears out of nowhere and slams into a ute in an eerie moment captured on dash cam in Victoria, sparking a spiritual debate.

The “matrix” moment was posted to Facebook by Dash Cam Owners Australia on Thursday and shows the two cars collide at a Cranbourne intersection in Melbourne.

In the video, traffic can be seen turning right through a green light and seemingly out of nowhere, a silver Holden Astra materialises and crashes into a turning ute.

Upon impact, the hatchback does a complete 180-degree turn and the front of the vehicle seems to be severly damaged.

The driver of the car steps out as the traffic continues to pass by.

Some Facebook users are completely gobsmacked by the incident and say it is a “glitch in the matrix”.

“It's a ghost car - out of nowhere!!!” Pauline Rickard commented.

“Where the hell did that Astra even come from? I watched the video nearly a dozen times and am still none the wiser!!!” Petey Mason said.

Neil McClymont believes it is a “glitch in the matrix.”

“No matter how many times I watch this that Astra just materialises out of nowhere. What the hell?!?” McClymont said.

But what seems to be the most logical explanation is the Astra ran through a red light and the overcast day combined with grainy footage makes the silver car difficult to navigate in the video.

Facebook users agree and say silver and grey cars should keep their headlights on during dull weather to make sure they are visible.

Paul Hughes admits his grey and black Nissan Patrol seems “to activate cloak of invisibility on rainy days” so he drives around town with his lights on.

Another user admits that grey cars always catch him by surprise.

“The number of times I've looked before merging or pulling out, only to be almost cleaned up by a grey car! It's always a grey coloured car!” Leonard Zech said.

Shido Merubiru believes this is a perfect example of why lighter-coloured cars should have their headlights when the weather is dull.

“This is a good preview to show why you must have your headlights on during overcast/rainy days and also when the sun starts to set,” she said.

This is not the first time users have speculated over a video sparking a spiritual debate.

Is this a fuel scam, or a gas ghost?

A motorist in the US was furious to see a petrol station pump continued to charge him after he finished filling his car.
