'I’ll shoot you dead bro': Muslim students targeted in 'unprovoked, racist attack' on Melbourne train

FIRST ON 7: A group of Muslim students say they feared for their lives after a racist attack on board a Melbourne Metro train.

Other passengers were forced to step in, to help stop the hate filled tirade.

The unidentified man targeted Malik Saif and Zain Shahit on Tuesday morning, while they were on their way to university.

The man who was wearing a checked shirt, jeans, rucksack and navy cap began the ten minute tirade against the three young Muslim men and other passengers.

Mr Saif said: “He was pointing like this that ‘you people, why are you people here, you are f***** Muslims, so get out of here’.”

The trio told 7 News they are still shaken by what happened on the train, they describe it as an unprovoked, racist attack.

Zain Shahit added: “He was making gestures (with his arms up in the air) and some kind of AK47, that kind of stuff and bomb blast, he was making that kind of gestures.”

The man was filmed saying: “You invade this place what happens? What happens?”


Witnesses say the tirade continued for ten minutes, even after other passengers intervened.

“I’ll shoot you dead bro, I’ll shoot you dead,” the man also said.

Some of the others passengers on the train were also targeted with death threats.

He went on to say: “I don't care, I'll go to jail, I'll go to jail for murder.”

One passenger was so frightened she took to social media to discreetly report the incident and urged police to board the train at Essendon'

The Good Samaritans forced the man off the train before authorities could intervene.

Police have confirmed they are working with Metro Trains and an investigation is underway.

Malik says it is the first time he's been targeted since moving to Melbourne from Pakistan one year ago and he hopes it will be the last.
