Taxi driver issued with parking fine while helping disabled passenger out of car
A taxi driver who stopped on the side of the road to help a disabled elderly woman out of his car has been left outraged after a council worker issued him a parking fine just moments after he arrived.
The cabbie from Essex, England, had taken the woman to do her shopping and stopped his vehicle in a no parking zone to drop her off.
When a parking inspector approaches the car seconds later, the driver is left astounded.
“So you’re giving me a ticket for dropping off a disabled lady?” the driver can be heard asking the man.
The council worker continues to take photos and write a ticket, ignoring the cabbie’s question.
The elderly woman is still standing nearby during the incident, and comes to the taxi driver’s defence.
“You’re a nasty person,” she yells.
“You can’t park here,” the council worker says, continuing to do his job.
“This could be your mum getting out of the car,” the driver can be heard saying, trying to reason with the inspector, but he doesn’t budge.
The woman, standing with her walker, is visibly distressed by the incident and tells the council worker:
“I wouldn’t be able to come into town if he didn’t bring me.”
Failing to show any sympathy for the pair, the inspector issues the ticket and leaves the scene.
The owner of the taxi company, Dan Robinson, told the Essex Chronicle the driver was hit with a $100 fine.
“I just think it is absolutely ridiculous,” he said.
He said he plans to appeal the ticket.
