Drunk, drugged parents force police to vent frustration on social media

An eight-month-pregnant woman who allegedly tested positive to methamphetamines while driving with her five-year-old drove frustrated police to Twitter.

“Positive to Meth, with 5yo in car and 8mths pregnant. Not a good example,” read the Tweet responding to that incident.

But that was not the only example of dangerous parenting decisions found during the state’s Easter road blitz.

Another tweet from the official WA Police traffic account slammed one driver who was caught with a 0.173 blood alcohol reading.

“Seriously!!! with your child in car, crash waiting to happen,” the account Tweeted, along with an image of the paperwork supporting the alleged incident.

Then came another.

“Another driving Positive to Meth and Cannabis with 5mth old in car. Thankful not my mum.”

Easter is usually a time when police redouble their efforts to catch dangerous drivers but, as the WA Police Traffic account has lamented several times this weekend – many still ignore their warnings.

So far two people have died on WA roads this Easter.

A pregnant woman was killed in an accident in Victoria on Saturday. Medical teams were unable to save her 31-week-old unborn child.

A man also died in a crash in the Northern Territory on Saturday. There has also been a fatality in New South Wales.

There have been no fatal accidents to date in South Australia, Queensland, Tasmania or the ACT as of midday on Easter Monday.

There were 22 deaths on Australia’s roads during the 2015 Easter long weekend.
