Popular Queensland petting zoo left devastated by farm animal massacre

Stray dogs are believed to be behind the deaths of 30 animals at a North Queensland petting zoo.

The owners of Cairns Fun-E-Farm mobile petting farm were devastated to wake up to the massacre on Saturday morning.

Anita Coulthard told the Cairns Post she found her fenced White Rock property "completely covered" with dead chickens, ducks and guinea pigs.

She said she thought the attack happened either late on Friday night or early on Saturday morning.

“It’s just horrible when you wake up in the morning to see all these beautiful pets mauled,” she said.

Ms Coulthard has since put out a plea to pet owners to lock up their dogs.

She said the attack was the fourth in about a decade.

Despite the tragedy, Ms Coulthard said the petting zoo would continue to run over the Easter school break.

Ms Coulthard's farm is popular within her local community, Facebook reviews of the business praise her hard work.

A Cairns Regional Council spokeswoman told the Cairns Post they had seized two stray dogs, however there was no evidence to suggest they were responsible for the attacks.

The council was investigating the matter.
