Daughter of former NSW premier sent remorseful letters to ex-boyfriend from jail while awaiting murder trial

The daughter of former NSW premier Neville Wran wrote to her ex-boyfriend from jail saying she wished she had never used meth.

Harriet Langley Wran, 27, is accused of murdering a suspected drug dealer in Redfern, after becoming addicted to ice.

The Daily Telegraph reports Ms Wran sent her ex-boyfriend Dennen Chew letters while in prison, describing the conditions and apologising for how their relationship ended.

She reportedly told him she wished she had never come into contact with the drug ice.

Ms Wran noted she was told not to write to anyone she had ‘used with’ but she chose to ignore those orders.

“Jail is pretty much what you’d imagine – a dirty, tiny cell with a waifer (sic) thin mattress, creepy writing all over the walls and a metal toilet in arm’s length from the bed,” she wrote.

Ms Wran was being held in isolation because of her ‘high profile’ status.

She wrote that she worried about her weight since being incarcerated and that she didn’t enjoy the food.

“The food comes through a hole in the door, it’s disgusting but there’s little else to do in here except eat,” she wrote.

Ms Wran explained she was allowed to study via distance education in jail.

“It (studying) will help me escape from this hell, right now I wish I lived in any time period other than this one, where ice would never have come into my life,” she wrote.

She told Chew she was glad he had changed some of his ways since they were together, including erasing some of his friends from his life.

“They are a bunch of people rotting from the inside out who are not your friends, no matter what they say ... especially, he must be the most insidiously evil person I’ve ever met,” she wrote.

Ms Wran reportedly wrote the letter on October 10, 2014, days after she was told Mr Chew tried to visit her.

She explained to him that she couldn’t go into details about her case and asked him not to write anything that could be used by police in an investigation.

The Daily Telegraph reported leaked letters revealed Michael Lee, who was also arrested alongside Ms Wran, attempted to contact her by mail on many occasions.

Each time she failed to reply, another letter was sent pleading for a response.

His letters outlined his strong feelings for Ms Wran and his desire to communicate with her.

He told her he had been moved to Long Bay jail and knew a few people there so was hoping to stay.

His final letter to Ms Wran was sent on September 15.

“I truly thought that you were a nice true person and better than that but I guess even I still judge people wrong,” he wrote.

The letter ends with him telling her he would see her at the trial.

It’s expected the trial will be held in June 2016.

Ms Wran is accused of the August 2014 murder of Daniel McNulty and has also been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and robbery in company.

It's also alleged she and her co-accused stabbed Brett Fitzgerald inside a Redfern apartment and stole $600 from him.

Mr Fitzgerald survived the attack.
