Cyclist sent skidding along road after careless driver's brutal 'hit and run'

A speeding car has sent a cyclist through the air and skidding along a Sydney road, shredding his skin in a shocking alleged hit and run caught on dashcam.

Ray Kan was riding from Marrickville to the CBD when he was taken down by a car in a hurry on Bridge Road in Glebe.

Another driver captured the shocking moment on his dashcam, which was later given to the cyclist who reported the incident and passed on the footage to NSW Police on Saturday.

The 38-year-old father can be riding seen in shorts and singlet. Luckily, he is wearing a helmet when the dark sedan comes flying into the vision.

The car clips Mr Kan, sending him flying into the air, skin scraping along the road.

Mr Kan is now on antibiotics after the grazes and cuts became infected, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

The local man said the car was going very fast and it should of stopped after hitting him, regardless of whether or not he fell off.

"I'm pretty p**sed off actually, it hurt a lot at the time and it still hurts now," Mr Kan told Fairfax.

"I grazed the entire right hand side of my body and I'm pretty nervous to ride again."

Mr Kan also commented that motorists do have an advantage on the road and that cyclists are more vulnerable.

"My attitude is most of the drivers do take care and are respectful of cyclists. There's just a very small minority that are either ignorant or actively choose to give cyclists a hard time," he said.

The incident has come just as new laws requiring motorists to leave a one-metre space when overtaking a cyclist at 60km/h or less and a 1.5 metre-gap thereafter on Tuesday March 1.

Motorists who breach these new laws will be faced with a $319 fine and will lose two demerit points.

Cyclists are required to carry ID, wear a helmet and will face fines if they run a red light.

This isn't the first shocking 'hit and run' which has been captured on dashcam.
